Winter Guard

Winter Guard is a spring show that members of Color Guard participate in from late December to mid-April. Every year, their show features choreography that involves dance, flags, rifles, and gymnastics. Unlike marching band, they perform inside gymnasiums and utilize a painted floor that is designed to fit the theme of their show. In the past, their music selections include medleys of songs about a specific topic (baseball, winter, etc.) that tops off at about 4 1/2 minutes.

With nineteen participants, the group consists of all girls and one guy, with most being upperclassmen. The group is under the direction of Chris Velez, Rachelle Richardson, and Brittany (???). As a former PHS drum major, Rachelle is back to faithfully train up the new ranks of the guard.

This year, their show theme is quite simply, love (thus the heart headbanners)! They will be using sabers and individual wooden chairs as props this year. Their music is one piece called, "Maestro," however the name of their show is "Unrequited Love." Uniquely, their show this year also features voice overs from Kate Winslet and Jude Law in the movie, "The Holiday" as well as from Hugh Grant in "Love Actually." All in all, this is sure to be a very inspirational show. You can listen to it below.

(3/2/08): Thanks to Paige T. we now know that the name of the show: "Unrequited Love." This title simply means a love that is "not reciprocated or returned in kind" and fits well with the dialogue in the latter half of the show.
