Thursday, January 31, 2008 ~ The Music Man

With less than a week to go until opening night of "The Music Man," our next featured song is Shipoopi! The musical is going to be very entertaining and is a great way to support our friends in the orchestra pit. Here is the complete schedule:

Wednesday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m.
Friday, February 8th at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 14th at 7:00 p.m.
Friday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 16th at 2:00 & 7:00 p.m.

Tickets can be ordered using This Form or at school by the choir room at lunch. See you there!

Monday, January 28, 2008 ~ Week XXIV Leadership VIP

Leadership of the Week:
Niki T. ~ Clarinet Section Leader (right)

(No extra information provided)

What We Think: Niki is a tough cookie who believes in discipline and works very hard. She plays oboe during concert season too.

This concludes the Leadership of the Week, having finally cycled through all 24 members of 2007-2008! It's been a long road from start to finish but I hope that you have enjoyed this feature of the website. But what shall replace the LOTW? That question will be answered sometime soon...

Saturday, January 26, 2008 ~ New Photo Album

WOW!!! It seems like we have been faithfully cranking out new photo albums forever, but here is #23: The Winter Concert! Although it was not my most successful night picture-wise, hopefully this album will bring back some fond memories of RCM, middle-schoolers, and alumni.

Hang in there. More news on the way by February...

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 ~ The Music Man

This week's song from The Music Man is "Marian the Librarian," one of my personal favorites. Today marks the first joined orchestra and choir rehearsal. Also, concert season is officially under way with the following band classes:

Period 1 ~ Wind Ensemble
Period 2 ~ Wind Symphony
Period 3 ~ Symphonic Band
Period 4 ~ Concert Band
Period 5 ~ Orchestra (No 6th period)

Monday, January 21, 2008 ~ Week XXIII Leadership VIP

Leadership of the Week:
Dana B. ~ Drum Major (left, right)

(No extra information provided)

What We Think: As Drum Major, Dana must be a conductor for the field show, a batonist for parade competition, and an ambassador for the entire band program. She often speaks on behalf of the EB. It's a lot to handle but her skills are sufficient for the job after a year of training in 2006. Dana also plays alto saxophone in Wind Ensemble.

Saturday, January 19, 2008 ~ New Photo Album

With the first semester of school now completed, here is a special present for getting through Finals! This Senior Night Rehearsal photo album is filled with special memories of our favorite Seniors. As the very very last marching season album, it signifies the beginning of Concert Season.

Speaking of concerts, the band was recently treated to the annual "Instructor's Recital" on Thursday which featured various solos by professional players. There were performances by a trombone, flute, bassoon, trumpet, tuba, and clarinet player. All of the soloists (except for the clarinetist) were accompanied by an unbelievably talented pianist. In addition, the orchestra was treated to a performance by an ensemble from Chapman University later that same day! It looked very exiting as well.

Wednesday, January 16, 2008 ~ The Music Man

I have now posted our second featured song from The Music Man, Seventy-Six Trombones & Goodnight, My Someone. Hoorah. January is a slow month, so hopefully we will get some real band news by February...

Monday, January 14, 2008 ~ Week XXII Leadership VIP

Leadership of the Week:
Robert H. ~ Drumline Captain

(left)

(No extra information provided)

What We Think: Being the section leader of drummers may very well be one of the toughest leadership positions available. You must have talent, strength, and constant discipline. While the drumline may have been a bit rambunctious this year, Rob efficiently contributed to another successful percussion season. As a Senior, Rob also is in Wind Symphony.

Saturday, January 12, 2008 ~ Photo Album

This week's photo album is one of my personal favorites, Qualcomm & Football Games 3. This one is jam packed with photos from three football games AFTER the Arcadia Tournament. Also, I have extended the text and added a new video on The Music Man page that was released on Wednesday if you are interested...

Wednesday, January 9, 2008 ~ The Music Man

As you may have heard, Poway High School's musical this year will be, "The Music Man" by Meredith Wilson! Although it is not considered to be an official band event, some of our top musicians are already practicing music to be in the orchestra for the production. Opening night for the show is less than a month away (Feb. 7) so we will be featuring songs from the musical every week on this Music Man audio page to get you psyched up for it! Enjoy!

Sunday, January 6, 2008 ~ Week XXI Leadership VIP

Leadership of the Week:
Meganne B. ~ Band President (left)

(No extra information provided)

What We Think: As the band president, Meganne does a great job both as a representative and spokesperson. She makes announcements at Booster meetings and keeps the band updated with important information. As a Senior flute player, Meganne is a very cordial and friendly individual.

Friday, January 4, 2008 ~ New Feature

For the first photo album of 2008, here is part 2 of the Arcadia Tournament! It includes the evening Field Tournament happenings, but I found it rather difficult to take pictures during such a busy and emotional evening! This concludes the shortest update of the year...

Tuesday, January 1, 2008 ~ Happy New Year's!

Happy New Year's everyone! I hope that you had a great time awaiting 2008 last night while I myself was working on this update just minutes before midnight. In honor of the new year, I would like to present the Official Band Photos page, a collection of the official 2007 band photos, graciously donated by about three people total! Also, I have turned some of my photos into Wallpapers to give you a fresh start to another great year of music!

Now let me tell you about my plans for 2008: There will be no more pictures or videos of the week for awhile, but the Leadership of the Week are planned to continue to the end of January. Also, the marching season photo albums will continue to be released once a week to the end of the month. Finally, Percussion Ensemble, Winter Guard, and Concert Season are on their way and so the buttons on the right hand column will be unveiled soon...

Happy New Year's!
Yours Truly,
Joshua
