Orchestra

Orchestra is probably the most overlooked part of the PHS music program. It consists of string players (violin, viola, cello, string bass) as well as the top wind players and percussionists from the bands. Their full title is the "Symphony Orchestra" and is under the direction of Mr. Cook.

While not as prominent during the band's marching season, the orchestra springs into action during Festival season. They currently perform at Pre-Festival, the El Camino Festival, and the Poway Festival. Their three Festival pieces this year are available below:

Symphony No. 8 ~ Franz Schubert (4:08)

Russlan and Ludmilla ~ Mikhail J. Glinka (5:03)

Egmont, Opus 84 ~ Ludwig van Beethoven

The orchestra also plays at the annual Titan Times Assembly the day before winter break. Two additional orchestra performances include the Winter Concert in December and the Spring Concert in June. At the end of the year concert, there is also an orchestra dinner and an orchestra awards ceremony...but more on that when we get closer to June!

Finally, there is an even smaller ensemble known as "Chamber Orchestra." It features about fifteen of the top string players and is under the direction of Mr. Lapre. In the past, this ensemble has also included a handful of wind players. They perform at Poway's Festival as well as others around the area.
